Tom Petty: Birthday tributes and new releases announced

Commemorations are underway for singer-songwriter Tom Petty on his birthday. To mark the occasion and the 50th anniversary of the first Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers album, several projects have been announced.

A new box set titled ‘Origins 1971-1978’ is scheduled for release on November 6, tracing the early sonic formation of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

Additionally, artist Shepard Fairey, who previously illustrated the cover for ‘Tom Petty: An American Treasure’, is releasing a limited edition screen print titled ‘Tom Petty: I Won’t Back Down’. The print, a collaboration with the Tom Petty estate, will be available on October 22 at the Obey Giant and Tom Petty online stores. Proceeds from the collaboration support the ACLU’s efforts regarding voter information and rights.
