Tom Pidcock penalized 20 seconds and fined at Tour de France
British cyclist Tom Pidcock was penalised after the 15th stage of the Tour de France for using a team car twice on the climb to the Plateau de Solaison. The race jury imposed a 20‑second deduction from his overall time, a fine of 400 CHF (about €433) and the loss of eight points in the mountains classification, as well as a 30‑point drop in the UCI ranking.
The penalty left Pidcock ninth in the general classification, nine minutes and five seconds ahead of the rider in tenth place. He finished the stage 13th, more than three minutes behind stage winner Remco Evenepoel. Pidcock said, “I’m getting quite good at getting in the breakaways,” after riding in the breakaway for the third consecutive day.
Four other riders were also fined on the same stage for various infractions, including Alex Baudin for feeding outside the zone and Jan Tratnik for a sticky bottle.
