Tom Sparrow signs five-year extension with Melbourne Demons

Melbourne midfielder Tom Sparrow has signed a five-year contract extension to remain with the Demons, rejecting a lucrative long-term offer from Port Adelaide.

The 26-year-old, an unrestricted free agent, has enjoyed a career-best season, averaging 22.5 disposals and 3.7 clearances. Melbourne list manager Tim Lamb expressed satisfaction with the deal, noting that Sparrow has become one of the competition’s most impactful midfielders and a valued leader within the club.

Port Adelaide coach Josh Carr acknowledged the outcome after the club's pursuit of the midfielder failed. Sparrow, who was selected with pick 27 in the 2018 National Draft, has played 139 games for Melbourne and was a member of their 2021 premiership team.
