Slovakia coalition crisis: SNS demands resignation of Minister Taraba

Slovakia is facing an escalating political crisis within its governing coalition. The Slovak National Party (SNS) is demanding the resignation of Environment Minister Tomáš Taraba by September 15, citing a lack of political responsibility for ministry projects. Prime Minister Robert Fico has expressed his unhappiness with the intensifying conflict, noting that an agreement was previously reached where Taraba would resign by the end of September if relations were not restored.

Minister Taraba has refused to resign voluntarily, asserting that his performance justifies his position and that he intends to return to Parliament as an autonomous MP if removed. Meanwhile, discussions are underway regarding the potential abolition of the Ministry of Investment, Regional Development and Informatization (MIRRI) as part of public finance consolidation efforts.

In broader political developments, President Peter Pellegrini has requested to address the National Council to deliver a report on the state of the country. Additionally, opposition parties are calling for the dismissal of Economy Minister Denisa Saková and Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj Eštok, alleging that party interests are being prioritized over public needs.
