Tom Tiffany outlines energy policy in Wisconsin gubernatorial race
Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Tiffany has outlined his energy policy, focusing on affordability, accountability, and common sense. During a campaign stop in Menomonee Falls, Tiffany criticized the rise in Wisconsin utility rates, noting the state has moved from having the second-lowest rates in the Midwest to the second-highest.
Tiffany attributed these increases to the expansion of intermittent power sources like wind and solar, specifically citing the conversion of farmland into energy production sites. He argued that while he does not object to solar energy, it should be placed on impervious surfaces like rooftops rather than agricultural land to prevent rising food prices. His proposed policy includes embracing nuclear energy, preventing the closure of base load energy sources, and addressing what he described as the Public Service Commission ‘rubber stamping’ rate increases.
In contrast to Democratic candidate David Crowley, whose legislative history focuses on poverty, criminal justice reform, and voting rights, Tiffany’s legislative background includes tourism, hunting, and mining regulations. Tiffany previously authored a controversial 2013 bill regarding metal mining regulations in Wisconsin.
