Tom Tiffany survives small plane crash in Lake Wausau

Wisconsin Republican gubernatorial candidate and U.S. Representative Tom Tiffany survived a small plane crash on Saturday night. The Beechcraft Bonanza lost power while approaching the Wausau Downtown Airport, forcing the aircraft into Lake Wausau.

Tiffany, 68, reported that the pilot, Leonard Boltz, alerted him to the imminent descent before the impact. Following the crash, the two men exited the aircraft as it began to submerge, swimming approximately 100 to 150 feet to reach a sandbar. Rescuers arrived at the scene around 9:05 p.m. Tiffany sustained facial injuries requiring 12 stitches but was able to speak about the incident following the emergency.
