Tomar to receive 200,000 euros for Nabão River cleaning

The Tomar City Council will receive 200,000 euros from the Environmental Fund to perform desilting on the urban stretch of the Nabão River and conduct cleaning operations upstream and downstream of the city. This funding is part of a larger 4.2 million euro government allocation aimed at recovering territories affected by severe weather in January and February.

Mayor Tiago Carrão stated that repairing damage from recent inclement weather remains a priority ahead of the upcoming winter. The planned interventions include work on the river, dam gates, bank requalification, and specific works at the Sobreirinho dam and the Sabacheira stream.

Beyond weather-related repairs, the municipality is addressing long-standing structural issues, including pollution in the Nabão River and water supply losses in the Mendacha subsystem. The inclusion of new flood levels in the Flood Risk Management Plan (PGRI) is also expected to facilitate further municipal and private investment.
