Tomares minibus incident leads to arrest after elderly man's death

Authorities have arrested a minibus driver and are investigating a second employee following the death of an 84-year-old man in Tomares, Seville. The victim, a wheelchair user from a local day center, was left inside an adapted minibus for approximately eight hours after being transported to the facility.

The incident occurred last Friday when other passengers disembarked, but the elderly man remained in the rear section of the vehicle unnoticed. Staff members eventually discovered him inside the parked vehicle and alerted emergency services, but medical personnel could only confirm his death upon arrival.

The Guardia Civil has detained the driver on suspicion of homicide through gross negligence. A second worker from the geriatric center is also under investigation. The Judicial Police Territorial Team of Mairena del Aljarafe is working to clarify the circumstances and determine how oversight protocols failed. The case has been referred to the Instruction Section of the Court of Instance of Seville.
