Tomas Masiulis discusses AI and management in Žalgiris coaching

Tomas Masiulis, the head coach of the basketball club Žalgiris, has shared insights regarding the role of artificial intelligence in the sport and the importance of management principles in coaching.

Masiulis noted that while technology is evolving, AI will not be able to determine the starting five for a team. He emphasized that coaching requires more than just analyzing player statistics or individual abilities; it involves understanding interpersonal relationships, character, and how different people work together.

A graduate of Kaunas University of Technology (KTU), Masiulis credits his academic background in management for shaping his analytical thinking. He stated that while high-level mathematics may not be used directly on the court, his studies provided a foundation for analyzing situations, evaluating choices, and making decisions—skills he applies daily when managing the team.
