Polish outside hitter Tomasz Fornal, known for a provocative and emotional playing style, said national team coach Nikola Grbić once tried to tone down his on‑court antics. After a single training session Grbić reversed his approach, noting that the lack of Fornal’s characteristic provocations lowered the intensity of the practice. Fornal later returned to his usual demeanor, acknowledging that his spirited behavior helps energise the team.

In a separate interview, Fornal highlighted the long‑standing friendship and mentorship he receives from veteran captain Bartosz Kurek. He credited Kurek with shaping his mental approach to the game, describing him as a brother‑like figure who offers guidance both on and off the court.
