Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis reveals combat and progression details

Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog have released new details regarding the combat and progression systems for Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a remake of the original 1996 title. The developers introduced a new Focus system, which allows Lara Croft to slow down time to perform acrobatic maneuvers. This meter is filled by dealing damage, taking damage, or dodging attacks.

Lara will have access to four weapon types, including her signature dual pistols, a shotgun, an SMG, and an assault rifle. Notably, developers stated the entire game can be completed using only the dual pistols, though doing so may increase difficulty. The game also features RPG-inspired elements, such as a skill tree for character upgrades and a crafting system involving herbs to create buffs.

While the inclusion of skill trees and crafting has drawn some criticism from fans who prefer the classic gameplay style, the developers aim to balance modern mechanics with the franchise's acrobatic roots. The game is scheduled for release on February 12, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
