Tomb Raider remake confirms AI tools used in development
Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog disclosed that their upcoming Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis remake employed AI‑assisted tools for early exploration and temporary development content. The developers state that any AI‑generated assets were later replaced or refined by humans to preserve the creative vision of the final game.
The Steam page for the title includes the mandatory AI disclosure, prompting mixed reactions from fans and journalists. While some criticize the use of generative AI in games, the studio emphasizes that the final product will be entirely human‑crafted. The remake, a modern recreation of the 1996 original, is slated for release in February 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam.
The announcement adds to an ongoing industry debate over the role of AI in game creation, following similar controversies with other recent titles.
