Tombo Community Health Centre maternity unit rehabilitated

The maternity unit and patient waiting areas at the Tombo Community Health Centre have been rehabilitated, benefiting over 1,300 pregnant women and a catchment population of nearly 32,000 people. The facility was officially handed over to the Ministry of Health following upgrades conducted under the SHAPE Project, implemented by Solthis.

Key improvements include doubling the number of postnatal beds from three to six and the creation of a dedicated childbirth unit equipped with birthing balls and yoga mats to support woman-centred care. The facility also received essential medical equipment, such as an autoclave, a fetal Doppler, neonatal resuscitation equipment, and a radiant warmer.

These upgrades support Sierra Leone’s ‘300 Days of Activism Campaign,’ which aims to achieve the ‘Triple Zero’ goal: eliminating preventable maternal deaths, preventable child deaths, and zero-dose children.
