Tomelloso awards Gold Medal to Guardia Civil for 161 years of service

The city of Tomelloso has awarded its Gold Medal, the municipality's highest honorary distinction, to the local Guardia Civil station in recognition of 161 years of service. The ceremony took place on Saturday, October 17, at the Plaza de España.

Mayor Javier Navarro presented the medal to Lieutenant Francisco Jesús Muñoz Ligero, commander of the main station, on behalf of the corps. The award recognizes the continuous presence of the Guardia Civil in the locality since 1865, when the first five agents arrived under the command of Corporal Bernardo Carrión Gómez.

The distinction was proposed by the mayor in October 2023 and received unanimous approval from municipal groups in March 2024. The medal is inscribed with a dedication for the corps’ exemplary service to the city and its residents.
