Tomelloso reports 28 percent housing vacancy rate
Data from the National Statistics Institute (INE) reveals that 28 percent of homes in Tomelloso do not have a habitual residential use. This accounts for 5,304 vacant properties, making the municipality the third highest in the province of Ciudad Real for the number of properties without habitual residential use, following only Ciudad Real capital and Puertollano.
The housing vacancy issue is widespread across the province. In Daimiel, 33 percent of the residential park is vacant, while in Valdepeñas, the figure is 25 percent, and in Alcázar de San Juan, it is 23 percent. Some smaller municipalities show much higher percentages, such as Albaladejo at 60 percent and Corral de Calatrava at 59 percent.
According to the INE, these classifications are determined based on annual electricity consumption levels. Across the entire province of Ciudad Real, approximately 29 percent of the 313,180 residential properties analyzed are considered vacant.
