Tomi Ronkainen takes third place in Spartathlon ultra-run
Finnish ultra-runner Tomi Ronkainen secured third place in the Spartathlon, a 246-kilometer race held in Greece. Ronkainen completed the course from Athens to Sparta in 21 hours, 26 minutes, and 36 seconds.
The race was won by Hungary’s Tamás Bódis, who set a new course record with a time of 19 hours, 40 minutes, and 51 seconds. Ronkainen noted that the competition involved challenging weather conditions, including wet terrain that left his shoes soaked for the first 100 kilometers.
Despite facing gastrointestinal issues between the 150 and 200-kilometer marks, Ronkainen managed to maintain his position. This was his second time participating in the event, having previously finished in 32 hours three years ago.
