Tomio Okamura addresses unfulfilled mortgage promises
Czech politician Tomio Okamura, chairman of the SPD and a member of the governing coalition, addressed the discrepancy between campaign promises and current economic realities regarding mortgage rates. During a televised debate, Okamura acknowledged that the government cannot directly influence mortgage rates, despite having signed a government program that included promises of cheaper mortgages.
Okamura attributed the inclusion of these promises in the government program to a requirement from the ANO movement. He noted that while he signed the document, the current economic situation makes fulfilling the pledge difficult, stating that he is attempting to push for lower rates but is working largely alone in that effort.
