Tomislavgrad Nursing Home faces capacity shortages and rising costs

The Tomislavgrad Nursing Home, the only public institution for elderly and infirm care in the Hercegbosna Canton, is currently at capacity. With 112 of its 115 maximum spots filled, approximately ten people are on a waiting list, with wait times ranging from one to six months.

Demand for placement increases during the summer months. While most applicants are from the Tomislavgrad municipality and surrounding areas, there has been a notable increase in requests from Croatia in recent years.

Costs for accommodation increased by approximately 10 percent at the beginning of the year, driven by rising food and utility expenses, labor costs, and difficulties in recruiting care staff. Monthly rates vary based on mobility: mobile residents pay between 950 and 1,270 KM, semi-mobile residents between 1,120 and 1,390 KM, and non-mobile residents between 1,300 and 1,550 KM. Additional fees apply for specific needs, such as dementia care.
