Tommaso Cerno backs Meloni's tough immigration stance

Journalist and political commentator Tommaso Cerno defended Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s restrictive immigration policy, arguing that the previous “open‑border” approach in Europe has facilitated irregular migration and empowered criminal smuggling networks. Cerno claimed that making entry easier “feeds the mafias” and praised the stricter model promoted by the Italian government, often referred to as the “Albania model”.

He criticised left‑wing European parties for ignoring what he described as the reality of migrant flows and urged a realistic, security‑focused approach to managing migration routes into Italy.
