Tommy Davidson to star in ‘The Varnell Hill Show’ spinoff

Comedian Tommy Davidson is set to star in the new Paramount+ series ‘The Varnell Hill Show’, a spinoff of the 1990s comedy ‘Martin’. The project has been seven years in the making and follows the character Varnell Hill, a Los Angeles-based DJ originally introduced in the second season of ‘Martin’ in 1993.

The series is described as a workplace comedy set behind the scenes of a long-running late-night talk show. The plot centers on Varnell’s attempts to remain relevant amidst changing entertainment landscapes, network executive pressure, and a chaotic writers’ room.

Davidson noted that the show aims to blend the past, present, and future. Guest appearances for the series include Kirk Franklin, Mike Epps, Ms. Pat, Matt Barnes, and Damon Wayans.
