Tommy Lonergan named July Player of the Month

Tommy Lonergan has been named the Soccer Writers Ireland/SSE Airtricity Player of the Month for July. The 22-year-old Waterford FC striker won the award following a nationwide poll, securing 50 points to beat runner-up Shane Farrell of Drogheda United.

Lonergan has been a key figure in Waterford’s recent resurgence, contributing two goals and two assists during the month of July. His performance has helped the club move out of the bottom two in the Premier Division and has placed him at the forefront of the league’s Golden Boot race with 14 goals scored this season.

Lonergan credited the team’s improved form and confidence to the influence of manager Graham Coughlan, noting that the squad has gained clarity on their roles and tactical approach since his arrival.
