Tommy Samuelsson appointed Denmark ice hockey head coach

Swedish veteran coach Tommy Samuelsson, 66, has been hired as the new head coach of Denmark’s men’s national ice hockey team on a two‑year contract. Samuelsson, who most recently coached Timrå IK in Sweden’s SHL, brings 27 years of top‑level coaching experience from Sweden, Switzerland, Germany and Austria, including World Championship gold, two silver medals and three SHL titles. He replaces Mikael Gath, who left the Danish post to take the Timrå job.

Denmark’s ice‑hockey federation announced that general manager Morten Green praised Samuelsson’s tactical acumen and player‑development skills, saying the appointment will give “new experience and fresh eyes” to the program. Samuelsson expressed enthusiasm, calling the role a dream and pledging to create a positive development for Danish ice hockey.
