Tommy White hits first career MLB home runs

Oakland Athletics rookie Tommy White has recorded his first career Major League Baseball home runs, ending a period where he was primarily a contact hitter. Known as ‘Tommy Tanks’ during his time at LSU, White had recorded 22 singles in his first 24 hits after debuting on July 17th.

His power drought ended during a weekend series against the Texas Rangers, when he hit a 413-foot solo home run in the eighth inning to help the Athletics secure a 5-2 win. White followed this performance with another home run in the subsequent game on Monday.

The Athletics have provided White with a regular starting role at first base, a move facilitated by a hip injury to Tyler Soderstrom. This consistent playing time is intended to help the rookie establish a rhythm against major league pitching.
