Tomoyuki Matsushita wins gold at Pan Pacific Swimming Championships

Tomoyuki Matsushita won the gold medal in the men's 400m individual medley at the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Irvine, California. Setting a new championship record of 4:06.75, Matsushita secured the first medal for the Japanese team at the event. He improved upon his personal best during the race, maintaining his lead through the final freestyle leg.

The championships serve as a critical stepping stone for the Japanese swimming delegation as they prepare for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The Japanese squad includes 38 swimmers, ranging from 17-year-old breaststroke specialist Shin Ohashi, who holds world junior records, to veteran Satomi Suzuki, a three-time Olympian.

Other notable participants from Japan include Mio Narita, who competed in the Paris Olympics at age 17, and Rikako Ikee. The competition features top-tier talent from the Pacific Rim, including the United States and Australia.
