Tomoyuki Sugano receives C- grade for Colorado Rockies season
Tomoyuki Sugano received a ‘C-’ grade from Sports Illustrated for his 2026 season with the Colorado Rockies. The 36-year-old pitcher finished the year with a 12-12 record, a 5.37 ERA, and 96 strikeouts.
Sugano’s season was marked by significant fluctuations in performance. He started strong in April with a 3-1 record and a 3.00 ERA, and enjoyed a successful July where he went undefeated with only 6 earned runs. However, his performance declined sharply in the final two months of the season. During August and September, he struggled with a 1-7 record, allowing 37 earned runs and 10 home runs.
Despite the struggles, the media noted that Sugano provided several quality outings during a difficult season for the Rockies, who reached 100 losses. However, analysts suggest his future with the team is uncertain, noting that the Rockies may look to new pitchers for their rotation next year and that the organization may have seen enough from the one-year contract holder.
