Tomás Rincón announces retirement from professional football
Venezuelan midfielder Tomás Rincón has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 38. Known by the nickname ‘El General’, Rincón concluded a career spanning nearly two decades through a video shared on his social media channels.
His professional journey began in Venezuela with Unión Atlético Maracaibo, Zamora FC, and Deportivo Táchira before he moved to Europe to play for Hamburger SV in Germany. He later established a significant presence in Italy, playing for Genoa, Juventus, Torino, and Sampdoria. During his time with Juventus, he won the Serie A title and the Coppa Italia.
Rincón also served as a long-time captain for the Venezuela national team, earning over 120 caps and representing the country in multiple Copa América tournaments. His final professional club was Santos FC in Brazil, where he played until July 2026. While retiring as a player, Rincón stated that he intends to remain involved in the world of football.
