Tomás Zambrano pledges to strengthen security and prison systems in Honduras
Honduran National Congress President Tomás Zambrano has announced a major push to restore order and combat crime following the implementation of recent penal reforms. Speaking after a meeting of the National Defense and Security Council, Zambrano stated that the new legal tools provided by Legislative Decree 258-2026 will allow security forces, intelligence agencies, and the judiciary to work more effectively against criminal structures.
Zambrano emphasized that the legislative branch will continue to provide necessary legal instruments to the police, armed forces, and the National Anti-Crime Agency. He also addressed the need to strengthen the penitentiary system, promising firmer controls in prisons to ensure that those who commit crimes are held accountable by the justice system. These measures follow recent movements of inmates between correctional facilities across the country.
