Tomás Zambrano proposes using seized assets for Honduran security

Tomás Zambrano, President of the National Congress of Honduras, has proposed utilizing seized assets and funds to strengthen national security and justice institutions. During a visit to San Pedro Sula, Zambrano suggested that between 800 million and 1,000 million lempiras in seized assets could be temporarily redirected to security bodies, provided there is approval from the Ministry of Finance and a mechanism to replenish the funds if judicial rulings later require their return.

Zambrano outlined a potential distribution of resources, including 2,200 million lempiras for the Police, 200 million for the Prosecutor's Office, 200 million for the Courts, and 200 million for the Armed Forces. He emphasized the urgent need for immediate action to combat criminal structures, extortion, and the resulting forced displacement of families.

In addition to financial measures, the legislative leader called for stricter controls within penitentiary centers and the creation of special judicial mechanisms to better confront organized crime. He stressed that the state must provide the necessary tools to ensure public safety and protect citizens from violence and crime.
