Tomsi Tohir calls for human‑centric transformation of Indonesia's Satpol PP
Tomsi Tohir, Secretary General of Indonesia's Ministry of Home Affairs, urged the Satuan Polisi Pamong Praja (Satpol PP) to become the leading, human‑focused face of public service. He said the quality of Satpol PP's interaction with the community shapes public perception of government performance, and therefore an empathetic, service‑oriented approach must be reinforced.
The call was made while opening a Training‑of‑Trainers workshop for Satpol PP and community protection officers at the Gunung Putri training centre in Bogor, West Java. Tohir highlighted the need to raise the capacity of personnel drawn from honoraries, contract workers and civil servants, standardise competence, and instill a professional, compassionate culture. He also urged the force to innovate by helping children cross streets, supporting humanitarian aid distribution and other social actions that build closer ties with residents.
The aim is for Satpol PP to be seen as professional, trusted and loved by the community.
