Tomza gas company continues operations after Morelos explosion

One week after an LP gas tanker explosion in the Las Granjas neighborhood—located between Cuernavaca and Jiutepec, Morelos—the gas company Tomza continues to operate without sanctions. The incident resulted in 22 injuries and affected 34 homes, with three buildings declared uninhabitable.

State Civil Protection Coordinator Ubaldo González Carretes stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the deflagration, but no sanctions have been issued against the company. Meanwhile, the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) has received more than 130 complaints from those affected by the blast.

Affected residents have expressed frustration over a lack of response from both the company and state authorities regarding compensation and repairs. Preliminary reports suggest the explosion may have been caused by a leak resulting from a vehicle impact, possibly due to hitting a pothole or speed bump at high speed. Neighbors have had to organize their own aid for the victims as uncertainty grows regarding the tanker's insurance coverage and liability.
