Tonalá sinkhole traps couple in overturned vehicle

A young couple was trapped inside a vehicle after falling into a sinkhole in Tonalá, Jalisco. The incident occurred at the intersection of Cihualpilli and La Mesa streets in the Altamira neighborhood when the driver attempted to maneuver around a hole that had been poorly marked with only a tire.

The ground gave way, causing the car to flip over inside the approximately one-meter-deep sinkhole. Both occupants were rescued without serious injuries. Local residents noted that the issue had been reported to the water authority, Siapa, for at least a year, as the hole had gradually worsened over time. Authorities cordoned off the area to prevent further accidents.
