Tong Tzu-wei announces candidacy for Keelung Mayor

Keelung City Council Speaker Tong Tzu-wei has announced his candidacy for Keelung Mayor under the Democratic Progressive Party nomination. In a recent interview, Tong discussed his political journey, noting that he initially faced opposition from his family, including his grandfather, a prominent local figure. He revealed that he has since reconciled with his family, which culminated in his grandfather's support during the establishment of his campaign headquarters.

Tong also expressed his intention to collaborate with Taipei mayoral candidate Shen Po-yang to create a positive spillover effect between Taipei and Keelung, aiming to attract more young people back to his hometown. He described President Lai Ching-te as a political mentor who has provided guidance on maintaining impartiality while serving as Speaker. Tong's campaign platform includes a 'dream pavilion' featuring illustrated policy proposals for Keelung's seven administrative districts.
