Toni Comín returns to Catalonia after nine years in exile

Toni Comín, the former Catalan Minister of Health and newly elected MEP for Junts, returned to Catalonia on Sunday after nine years of living in Belgium. Following the lifting of arrest warrants by the Spanish Supreme Court via the amnesty law, Comín crossed the administrative border from France to Spain on foot through the Coll dels Belitres, accompanied by approximately 200 supporters, including family, friends, and political leaders.

Before his crossing, Comín traveled to Madrid to fulfill legal requirements, including swearing allegiance to the Spanish Constitution to secure his seat in the European Parliament. Upon his arrival in Catalonia, he was received at the Junts party headquarters in Barcelona by leadership figures such as Jordi Turull and Miriam Nogueras.

In a speech delivered at the memorial in Coll dels Belitres, Comín described his return as a “collective victory for independence” and asserted that the struggle for independence remains a “just, necessary, and possible” objective. His return follows that of fellow former minister Lluís Puig, while Carles Puigdemont remains abroad.
