Toni Greblă disputes AEP claims on early election laws

Toni Greblă, the former president of Romania’s Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP), has contested claims by the current AEP leadership regarding the necessity of legislative changes to hold early elections.

While current AEP president Adrian Țuțuianu has suggested that Law 208/2015 requires adjustments to accommodate early parliamentary elections, Greblă maintains that the existing legal framework is sufficient. He stated that the same rules apply to both scheduled and early elections, noting that Romania possesses a clear legislative structure for such processes.

The current AEP leadership is reportedly preparing a draft law that would reduce the electoral calendar from 90 to 75 days. Greblă argued that the interpretation and adoption of necessary measures for election conduct can be managed by both the AEP and Central Electoral Bureaus without requiring new legislation.
