Tonicorp trains 271 community leaders to fight malnutrition in Bolívar
Tonicorp has certified 271 community leaders in the Bolívar province of Ecuador through its “Community Leaders with a Focus on Nutrition and Productive Promotion” program. The initiative, which marks five years of operation, aims to combat chronic childhood malnutrition by training residents in nutrition, hygiene, breastfeeding, prenatal care, and safe water management.
Data from the INEC National Survey on Child Malnutrition (2023–2024) indicates that 24.3% of children under two in Bolívar suffer from chronic malnutrition, a higher rate than the national average of 19.3%. The program focuses on the parishes of Julio Moreno, Simiatug, and Guanujo, with women making up 70% of the participants. These leaders share their training with others, a replication process that has reached over 5,500 people.
To support these educational efforts, the program has installed 25 chlorination systems in the province, providing approximately 10,000 people with access to clean water. Tonicorp stated that these actions are part of a sustainable business model and a water security strategy designed to provide communities with the tools necessary to maintain healthy childcare practices.
