Tony Blair warns Iran has underestimated Donald Trump’s resolve
Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran has underestimated Donald Trump’s resolve to pursue military or strategic objectives until they are fully realized. Speaking to Fox News, Blair noted that while the debate regarding the initial decision to start a conflict remains open, there is growing consensus that objectives must be met, specifically ensuring Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons capability.
Blair emphasized that preventing a nuclear-armed Iran is critical to avoiding regional instability and a nuclear proliferation engine in the Middle East. This concern is underscored by reports from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) indicating that inspectors still lack access to certain enriched uranium stockpiles, leaving the exact location and quantity of 60 percent enriched uranium uncertain.
Regarding diplomatic options, Blair expressed support for negotiations if they can achieve these goals, but warned that Iran must recognize a ‘red line.’ This sentiment aligns with previous statements by U.S. officials, such as Secretary of State Marco Rubio, regarding the necessity of securing the Strait of Hormuz before advancing negotiations on highly enriched uranium. Additionally, Blair highlighted Iran’s severe economic distress, noting significant contractions in GDP and industrial sectors alongside high inflation.
