Tony Buzbee to face $25 million defamation lawsuit

A federal judge has denied a motion to dismiss a $25 million defamation lawsuit filed by Mississippi attorney Marcy Croft against Texas lawyer Tony Buzbee and his firm. U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Vincent Brown ruled that Croft’s allegations of defamatory statements are legally plausible.

Croft, who represents Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, alleges that Buzbee used social media platforms including Instagram and Facebook to falsely accuse her of illegal client solicitation and barratry. The lawsuit seeks damages for what is described as a coordinated campaign to damage her professional reputation.

The ruling follows a period of escalating legal conflict between Buzbee and Jay-Z. The dispute intensified after a former client of Buzbee recanted allegations of sexual assault against the rapper, stating she had never met him. Jay-Z has also filed separate defamation and malicious prosecution claims against Buzbee in New York federal court.
