Tony Iommi receives MBE at Windsor Castle
Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi attended an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle on Wednesday, September 30, to receive his MBE (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire). The honour, which was part of the King’s Birthday Honours announced in June, recognizes his significant contributions to music and charity.
Iommi, often referred to as the ‘Godfather of Heavy Metal’, co-founded Black Sabbath in the 1960s. The band achieved global success, selling millions of records and winning four Grammy Awards. The musician previously noted the surprise of the honour, stating it was a shock when he first discovered the news.
In addition to his musical legacy, Iommi has been an advocate for humanitarian projects and has supported charities such as Macmillan Cancer Support.
