Tony Leung stars in ‘Silent Friend’ directed by Ildikó Enyedi

Mimosa Films has released the teaser poster, trailer, and production stills for ‘Silent Friend’ (Stille Freundin), the latest film from director Ildikó Enyedi starring Tony Leung. The film is scheduled for a nationwide release in Japan on December 4, 2026.

An intellectual mystery, the story follows a neuroscientist, played by Leung, who conducts experiments involving a large ginkgo tree on a German university campus. The narrative spans approximately 100 years, connecting different eras through the tree, including 1908 and 1972. The film also stars Léa Seydoux as a scientist working in a Paris botanical garden.

‘Silent Friend’ has received significant critical acclaim, winning six awards at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival, including the International Critics' Week award and Best Newcomer for Luna Wedler. It also received the Silver Hugo at the Chicago International Film Festival and the Sloan Science on Screen Award at the San Francisco International Film Festival.
