Tony Parker debuts as LDLC ASVEL coach amid budget delays

Tony Parker has taken on a dual role as both owner and coach of the French basketball club LDLC ASVEL. During the launch of the 2026-2027 season at the FULFIL SuperCoupe, Parker addressed the club's financial situation and future ambitions.

Parker revealed that a previous plan to implement a massive 59 million euro budget was delayed by one year due to restrictions from the DNCG, the French financial watchdog for basketball. He attributed this setback to the fallout from mistakes made by Monaco, which resulted in the club's exclusion from national championships. Parker stated that while the project was delayed, the club has built a 24 million euro roster for the current season and intends to return to its large-scale spending goals next summer.

In his coaching debut at the SuperCoupe held at Roland-Garros, Parker led ASVEL to a narrow 73-71 defeat against Roanne, coached by his brother TJ Parker. Despite the loss, Parker emphasized a long-term vision for the club, aiming for competitiveness and trophies over the next decade.
