Tony Ramos criticizes AI actor recreation as ‘a horror’
Brazilian actor Tony Ramos has expressed strong opposition to the use of artificial intelligence to recreate or substitute actors in the audiovisual industry. During an appearance on the program Roda Viva, Ramos described the practice as ‘a horror’ and a form of deception toward audiences. He argued that technological recreations are often used as a pretext to claim improved quality and lower costs, whereas he believes true quality stems from human elements like ‘flesh, bone, soul, and vibration.’
Ramos also shared that he was recently a victim of AI manipulation. He reported that a deepfake video used footage from an interview with Ana Maria Braga to falsely depict him promoting prostate medication. While acknowledging that AI is a reality that society must learn to manage, he noted its potential for criminal use. Regarding the use of his likeness after his death, Ramos stated he would leave those decisions to his children and grandchildren.
