Tony Romo and CBS Sports part ways following OWI arrest

CBS Sports and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo have mutually agreed to part ways, ending his nine-year tenure as the network’s lead NFL analyst. The decision follows Romo being placed on indefinite leave after his July arrest in Wisconsin on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OWI).

Romo, 46, pleaded no contest to the charges and stated that his struggle with alcohol was linked to chronic pain resulting from multiple back surgeries during his NFL career. He expressed a desire to focus on his health and family during this period.

Following the split, CBS confirmed that former NFL player JJ Watt will continue to serve as the lead analyst alongside play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz and sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson for the remainder of the season.

In his first public appearance since the arrest, Romo competed in a PGA Tour Q-School pre-qualifying event in Oklahoma, where he shot a 76 in the opening round.
