Tony Romo faces three new citations following Wisconsin OWI arrest

Tony Romo, the lead NFL analyst for CBS Sports, is facing three additional citations following his July 23 arrest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for suspected operating while intoxicated (OWI). The new citations include first-offense OWI, unsafe passing on the right, and possession of open intoxicants inside a vehicle.

The arrest occurred after a traffic stop on Interstate 43, where authorities reported Romo performed poorly on field sobriety tests and refused a breathalyzer test. Body camera footage showed Romo stating he was traveling from a golf course to visit his grandparents.

Following the incident, CBS Sports placed Romo on indefinite leave. CBS Sports President David Berson stated there is currently no timetable for Romo’s return, noting the network must consider the impact on its brand and image. In his absence, JJ Watt has stepped into the lead broadcasting role alongside Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson.

A spokesperson for Romo stated that he “accepts full responsibility for his actions” and is working with local authorities to resolve the matter, describing it as an “isolated civil matter.” Romo is scheduled to appear in court on September 21.
