Tony Vincelli Memorial honors environmentalist in San Gregorio Matese

The first Tony Vincelli Memorial was held on August 29 and 30 at Campo Braca in San Gregorio Matese. The two-day event honored the memory of the deceased Molise-based speleologist and environmental activist through activities centered on sport, nature, and social inclusion.

Participants included friends, family, and local citizens. Significant activities included a cave exploration by the Speleopop group in a cavern favored by Vincelli. The event also featured the presentation of 'Le pietre di Tony' (Tony's Stones), an educational workshop by Ambiente Basso Molise and Nicola Petrella as part of the 'IN. RE. TE.' project promoted by CSV Molise.

Vincelli was a prominent activist for Ambiente Basso Molise, known for his work in biodiversity defense, monitoring the Kentish Plover (fratino), and youth education. In a symbolic gesture, a Kentish Plover specimen was marked with the identification ring 'DAD' during the 2026 ringing campaign coordinated by ISPRA to honor his legacy.
