Tooro King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV dies at 34

The late Omukama of Tooro, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV, has passed away at the age of 34 while undergoing medical treatment in the United States. According to Baguma Komwiswa, the Head of Protocol in Tooro Kingdom, the monarch had remained optimistic about his recovery and had expressed his expectation to return home to Tooro the day after his death.

Queen Mother Best Kemigisa revealed that the King’s battle with cancer had been kept private at his own request. While the kingdom was informed he was on a working and academic visit to the US, he was actually battling angiosarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer.

The diagnosis followed a period of medical uncertainty in Uganda, where biopsies and examinations failed to identify the disease. The cancer was eventually detected during medical evaluations in Nairobi, Kenya, in November 2025. This led to a series of international medical efforts, including specialized treatment in Heidelberg, Germany, before his final transfer to the United States. His condition deteriorated rapidly on August 27, 2026, leading to the use of life support before he passed away.
