Tooro Kingdom official denies reports of new King selection

Charles Kamurasi, the head of the Babiito royal clan and chair of the 21-member Royal Succession Committee, has dismissed reports regarding the selection of the next King of Tooro. Kamurasi denied claims made by journalist Andrew Mwenda that a committee meeting had already selected George Desmond Kamurasi as the successor to the late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.

Kamurasi clarified that the selection of the next Omukama will follow established kingdom customs, traditions, and cultural norms rather than an electoral process. He rejected suggestions that the public or stakeholders would vote to determine the new monarch.

The succession process follows the death of King Oyo, who passed away at age 34. While some reports and remarks from the Queen Mother suggested the existence of a biological son to inherit the throne, Kamurasi has not confirmed such claims, stating that the identity of the successor will be determined through formal lineage and customary protocols.
