Tooro Queen Mother accused of murder by journalist Andrew Mwenda

Journalist and media owner Andrew Mwenda has leveled serious allegations against Tooro Queen Mother Best Kemigisa during the burial proceedings of the late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.

Mwenda accused Kemigisa of ordering the 1999 murder of Prince Kijangoma, the elder brother of the newly selected Omukama Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma. He claimed that while an individual was convicted for the crime, investigations at the time identified the Queen Mother as the architect of the killing, but she was allegedly shielded from prosecution to maintain kingdom stability.

Additional allegations made by Mwenda include Kemigisa’s interference in Tooro Kingdom affairs, mismanagement and sale of kingdom land, and obstructing the late King’s burial by refusing to allow his body to leave the palace, which reportedly necessitated military intervention to facilitate the transfer to a church. The accusations have sparked significant controversy and backlash on social media in Uganda.
