TOP 09 leadership faces internal tension following member departures

TOP 09 chairman Matěj Ondřej Havel has engaged in sharp political exchanges following the departure of a regional group of members to the KDU-ČSL party. During a televised debate, Havel criticized the government coalition's approach to public media funding, labeling the proposed changes a “crime against democracy.”

In response to Havel's criticisms, Petr Macinka of the Motorist party made remarks regarding party affiliations, leading to a brief verbal exchange in the studio.

Internal friction has emerged within TOP 09 regarding how the leadership handled the exodus. While Havel publicly criticized KDU-ČSL leader Jan Grolich for allegedly “luring” members away, some party insiders suggested the public outcry was unnecessary. These sources claim the movement of South Moravian members was anticipated as early as the summer, and that the leadership's reaction may have unnecessarily amplified the significance of the departures.
