Top 14 rugby 2026‑27 opens with new workload rules and a slate of injured and suspended players

The French Top 14 for the 2026‑27 season will be structured in blocks of eight matches, with clubs urged to limit each player to six games per block and a maximum of thirty matches or 2,000 minutes of play for the whole season. While the Ligue Nationale de Rugby (LNR) and the French Rugby Federation (FFR) have signed a convention that supersedes World Rugby’s general guidelines, selections will still be made case‑by‑case based on individual health.

A number of key players will miss the opening round due to injuries, suspensions or international duties. Toulon lose Dany Priso (Achilles rupture) and Marius Domon (ACL recovery); Bordeaux‑Bègles are without Ben Tameifuna (shoulder injury); Stade Français await Romain Briatte’s return from shoulder surgery; Montpellier’s Enni Nouchi continues rehab from a ankle injury sustained with the French national team. Additional absences include Dalton Papali’ia (Achilles rupture), Baptiste Couilloud (concussion), Gabriel Ngande (Achilles rupture), Rohan Janse van Rensburg (Achilles rupture), and Gaël Dre (heart surgery). Suspensions also affect players such as Guillaume Ducat (three‑match ban) and Levani Botia (disciplinary sanction).
