Top tennis stars withdraw from French Open amid injuries and doping suspension

World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the French Open after a wrist injury sustained at the Barcelona tournament proved severe enough to rule him out of the Paris event. The Spanish two‑time defending champion also missed the recent events in Madrid and Rome.

Italian prospect Lorenzo Musetti, ranked in the top ten, is also out after a thigh‑muscle injury diagnosed following his loss to Casper Ruud in Rome. Other notable absences include Briton Jack Draper (knee injury), Sweden’s Holger Rune (ongoing Achilles‑tendon rehab) and Czech Markéta Vondroušová, who has been suspended for missing three anti‑doping tests.

Replacements have been named: Daniel Merida will take Alcaraz’s spot, Alexander Zverev will move up in the draw, and veteran Stan Wawrinka fills Musetti’s vacancy. The depleted field opens opportunities for lower‑ranked players and qualifiers as the tournament approaches.
